As one of the most basic components of optical network wiring, optical fiber jumper is widely used in the construction of optical fiber links. Nowadays, optical fiber manufacturers introduce many types of optical fiber jumpers according to different application scenarios, such as MPO / LC / SC / FC / St optical fiber jumpers, simplex / duplex optical fiber jumpers, single-mode / multimode optical fiber jumpers, etc. they have their own characteristics and are irreplaceable. This article will give you a detailed introduction of common different types of optical fiber jumpers for easy selection and wiring.
According to the type of optical fiber connector
According to different optical fiber connectors, optical fiber jumpers can be classified as MPO / MTP / LC / SC / FC / St / MTRJ / mu / E2000 / DIN optical fiber jumpers. Although these different types of optical fiber jumpers have similar components (composed of connectors and optical cables) and the same functions, their characteristics and performance are different, resulting in different application scenarios.
LC fiber optic jumper
LC optical fiber jumper is one of the most commonly used optical fiber jumpers in optical networks. Because it uses LC connectors with a diameter of 1.25mm, and is small in size, it is very suitable for high-density wiring, so it is widely used in computer rooms and data centers. Nowadays, in order to meet the high-density and high-performance requirements of the data center, many suppliers have introduced LC fiber jumpers with better performance, such as ultra-low insertion loss LC fiber jumpers, one tube two core LC fiber jumpers, etc.
Ultra low insertion loss LC optical fiber jumper: compared with the conventional LC optical fiber jumper (the insertion loss is generally 0.75db), the ultra-low insertion loss LC optical fiber jumper adopts ll technology, and the insertion loss can be as low as 0.12db, which is more suitable for long-distance transmission.
A tube of dual core LC fiber jumper adopts specially designed LC uniboot connector, which allows bidirectional transmission of optical signals in a single fiber, providing more possibilities for high-density wiring. Compared with the standard LC optical fiber patch cord, it can effectively improve the space utilization rate by 50%, not only saving time and cost, but also making wiring more convenient, especially suitable for places with limited space.
In addition, in order to save the wiring space, compared with the ordinary LC optical fiber jumper, the short pigtail LC optical fiber jumper adopts the 12mm short pigtail design, and the connector length is shortened by 30%, making the wiring more flexible. It is very suitable for narrow environments and can meet the high-density wiring requirements of MDA (main wiring area) and EDA (equipment wiring area). When space is limited, short tailed LC fiber patch cord is a good choice.
SC optical fiber jumper
SC optical fiber jumper adopts SC connector with diameter ferrule of 2.5mm, which is twice the size of LC connector. Therefore, it is also called large square head connector (large square head optical fiber jumper). The optical fiber jumper adopts push-pull structure, plug and play, and has excellent performance. It is very suitable for telecommunications and data network systems, including point-to-point passive optical networks.
MPO / MTP fiber optic jumper
MPO / MTP optical fiber jumper is one of the common optical fiber jumpers in high-speed data communication systems, such as 40g / 100g direct connection and interconnection. MPO / MTP optical fiber jumper is an optical fiber jumper with multi-core optical fiber connectors, which can accommodate 6 ~ 144 optical fibers. It is the largest optical fiber jumper at present. MPO / MTP optical fiber jumper is composed of optical fiber, sheath, coupling assembly, metal ring, pin (pin pin pin), dust cap, etc. among them, it is divided into polarity A / polarity B / polarity C male / female optical fiber jumper due to the different number of fiber cores, arrangement positions and pins. Due to different types and different applications, it is necessary to select the appropriate MPO / MTP optical fiber jumper according to the actual link conditions.
FC fiber patch cord
FC optical fiber patch cord is the first optical fiber patch cord that uses ceramic ferrule connectors. Different from LC optical fiber patch cord and SC optical fiber patch cord, it uses a circular spiral connector made of nickel plated or stainless steel, which needs to be fixed to the adapter or jack with a screw clamp. Although the installation of FC optical fiber jumper is complicated, it is still the common optical fiber jumper for connecting optical time domain reflectometer. At first, FC optical fiber patch cords were also used in telecommunications and data network systems, but with the introduction of LC optical fiber patch cords and SC optical fiber patch cords, they gradually withdrew from the market.
ST fiber optic jumper
St optical fiber jumper is an optical fiber jumper developed and manufactured by at & T after FC optical fiber jumper. St optical fiber jumper adopts bayonet connector with spring-loaded ceramic ferrule (diameter: 2.5mm), with insertion loss of about 0.25dB. It can be used for long-distance and short-distance applications, such as campus network, enterprise network and military applications. However, in recent years, the market share of St optical fiber patch cord and FC optical fiber patch cord is gradually decreasing.
The above-mentioned optical fiber jumpers are the five most common optical fiber jumpers, with different connectors and popularity. The following will introduce four types of optical fiber jumpers that are less used in today’s optical networks.
MTRJ optical fiber jumper – the connector of MTRJ optical fiber jumper is made of precision plastic, which is divided into male and female heads due to different pins.
Mu optical fiber patch cord – Mu optical fiber patch cord is similar to SC optical fiber patch cord. It uses a 1.25mm diameter sleeve and a connector with a self retaining mechanism. It is compact and suitable for high-density installation and can be used in DWDM networks.
Din optical fiber jumper – although the structural dimensions of connector pins and coupling sleeves of DIN optical fiber jumper are the same as those of FC optical fiber jumper, the internal metal structure of its connector is equipped with a spring to control the pressure, so the structure is more complex and the mechanical accuracy is higher, so the loss is small.
E2000 optical fiber patch cord – the connector of E2000 optical fiber patch cord adopts a push-pull connection mechanism. The automatic metal gate and laser beam protection device on the connector are designed in one piece to quickly realize terminal connection.
